Introduction:

With the heightened awareness surrounding personal hygiene and the need to stay germ-free, hand sanitizers have become a daily essential. In times when store-bought hand sanitizers are in short supply or unavailable, knowing how to make your own can be incredibly useful. Here are eight easy steps to make your own hand sanitizer at home.

1. Gather ingredients and supplies:

To make hand sanitizer, you will need the following ingredients and supplies:

-Isopropyl alcohol (99%)

-Aloe vera gel

-Essential oils (optional for scent)

-Measuring cup

-Mixing bowl

-Spoon or whisk

-Funnel

-Empty bottle or container

2. Check Isopropyl alcohol concentration:

Ensure that you’re using 99% isopropyl alcohol for effective sanitization. The final concentration of your hand sanitizer should have at least 60% alcohol content for it to be effective against germs.

3. Measure Isopropyl alcohol:

Using a measuring cup, pour two-thirds of a cup (160ml) of isopropyl alcohol into the mixing bowl.

4. Measure Aloe vera gel:

Now measure one-third of a cup (80ml) of aloe vera gel and add it to the isopropyl alcohol in the mixing bowl.

5. Add essential oils (optional):

If desired, add a few drops of essential oils like lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus to give your hand sanitizer a pleasant scent. This step is optional but can make your homemade sanitizer more enjoyable to use.

6. Mix ingredients:

Using a spoon or whisk, mix the isopropyl alcohol, aloe vera gel, and essential oils together until they form a homogenous solution.

7. Transfer sanitizer into a bottle/container:

Place a funnel into the opening of an empty bottle or container and carefully pour your homemade hand sanitizer into it.

8. Use and store correctly:

Ensure that you allow the hand sanitizer to dry on your hands for it to be effective. When not in use, store the hand sanitizer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

In conclusion, following these eight simple steps, you can create your own effective hand sanitizer at home. However, please remember that hand sanitizers should never replace proper handwashing with soap and water. Hand sanitizers are a convenient alternative when soap and water access is limited or unavailable. Stay safe and practice good hygiene!
