Your Meat and Cheese Board Needs a Glow-up

In the world of appetizers, the meat and cheese board is a classic. It’s the go-to choice for gatherings, parties, and even a quiet night in. But if you’ve been presenting the same arrangement of cheddar, Swiss, and ham slices on a platter for years, it might be time for a modern twist. Here’s how to give your meat and cheese board the glow-up it deserves.

Begin with the board itself; a slab of natural wood can serve as a beautiful backdrop to your culinary art. Then think beyond the standard offerings – venture into the world of artisanal cheeses and specialty meats. A creamy Brie, tangy goat cheese, or bold blue can add new dimensions of flavor. For meats, explore options like prosciutto di Parma, spicy salami, or even duck breast prosciutto.

But why stop at cheese and meat? Accoutrements are essential for taking your board to the next level. Incorporate an array of textures and tastes with items like honeycomb for sweetness; marinated olives for brininess; nuts for crunch; and figs or grapes for a touch of freshness.

Don’t forget to pair these flavors with various types of bread and crackers; seeded flatbreads, crisp baguettes, or even gluten-free options make sure every guest can indulge. Hints of dark chocolate or a scattering of edible flowers can transform your board from food to masterpiece.

Lastly, presentation is key. Arrange each element thoughtfully – group similar colors together or create a pattern that guides the eye across the selection.

The modern meat and cheese board isn’t just about feeding guests; it’s about creating an experience that delights all the senses. With these simple upgrades, your next board will not only taste amazing but will also be worthy of any Instagram feed.
