What Is the Difference Between AirPods 1 and 2?

Apple has been dominating the market with its all-new wireless earbuds known as AirPods. They provide an exceptional user experience with advanced features and technology. The original AirPods were launched back in 2016, while the second-generation AirPods released in 2019. If you’re considering buying a pair of AirPods, you should know the difference between AirPods 1 and 2 before making a purchase.

First, let’s take a look at the similarities between the two. Both the first-generation and the second-generation AirPods provide users with a wireless experience with an identical design meant to fit comfortably in the ears. Both are also compatible with Siri, allowing you to make calls, send texts, and control music without touching the earbuds.

The most significant difference between AirPods 1 and 2 is the upgraded features of the latter. The 2nd generation AirPods come with improved sound quality. The sound is crisper and more refined, offering a balanced, powerful, and vivid sound experience. The improved sound quality is thanks to an upgraded Apple-designed H1 chip, adding powerful technology to the earbuds.

The second generation AirPods have an additional feature known as “Hey Siri,” which allows users to control their AirPods with voice commands. With AirPods 2 and later, your hands don’t have to touch your earbuds to activate Siri.

Another significant upgrade of AirPods 2 is the ability to charge wirelessly. AirPods 2 come with a Qi-compatible case that charges the earbuds wirelessly. Users also have the option to charge their case via lightning cable, just like the case that comes with the AirPods 1.

Additionally, the battery life for AirPods 2 is longer than AirPods 1, also thanks to the powerful Apple-designed H1 chip. The first-generation AirPods offer 5 hours of listening time and 2 hours of talk time, while the second-generation AirPods offer 5 hours of listening time and 3 hours of talk time.

So, to sum it up, the primary difference between AirPods 1 and 2 comes down to the upgraded technology, including Hi-Fi sound, wireless charging, and Hey Siri functionality. If you are looking for a more advanced listening experience, and the ability to charge wirelessly, then the AirPods 2 may be the way to go.
