What Is HDMI 2.0b?

HDMI 2.0b is the latest version of the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) specification. It was introduced in March 2016 as an update to HDMI 2.0a, and it brings some exciting new features to the popular A/V connection standard.

One of the most significant improvements over the previous version is support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) content. HDR is a technology that greatly expands the range of colors and brightness levels that can be displayed on a TV screen. This means that HDR content looks more vivid and lifelike compared to standard dynamic range video.

Another new feature added with HDMI 2.0b is support for 4K video at 60 frames per second. This is a noticeable improvement over the previous version, which could only handle 4K video at 30 frames per second. This means that content looks smoother and more fluid, with less motion blur or stuttering.

In addition, HDMI 2.0b also adds support for BT.2020 color gamut, which is a wider color space than the previous sRGB color gamut used in earlier versions of HDMI. This means that content looks even more lifelike and realistic, with a greater range of colors.

Finally, HDMI 2.0b also includes support for HDCP 2.2, which is a copy protection technology used to prevent unauthorized copying of digital content. This is an important feature for content providers, as it ensures that their content is protected from piracy.

Overall, HDMI 2.0b is a significant improvement over its predecessors, delivering better picture quality, smoother motion, and more vibrant colors. This makes it a great choice for anyone who wants to enjoy the best possible A/V experience with their home theater system, gaming console, or other device.
