What Apps Can You Actually Run on Linux?

Linux is an open-source operating system that has gained significant popularity in recent years. It is known for its stability, security, and customizability. However, one of the biggest challenges for Linux users has been to find applications that can run on their platform. In this article, we will discuss some of the most popular apps that can be run on Linux.

1. Web Browsers

Linux users have a wide range of options when it comes to web browsers. The most popular ones are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. These browsers are available in the native package manager of most Linux distributions.

2. Office Suites

Microsoft Office is not available for Linux, but users can still access a range of office suites that are compatible with Microsoft’s applications. Some of the popular office suites for Linux include LibreOffice, WPS Office, and OnlyOffice.

3. Media Players

Linux also allows users to enjoy their favorite media files. VLC media player is the most popular media player for Linux, but users can also download other media players like SMPlayer and Gnome Videos.

4. Image editors

For those who require image editing, there are also excellent tools available on the Linux platform. GIMP, a free and open-source image editor, is regarded as the best Linux image editing tool. Users can also use Inkscape, an open-source vector graphics editor.

5. Email Clients

Email is a vital part of our daily lives, and Linux users can access a range of email clients. Thunderbird is the most popular email client for Linux, but users can also use Evolution, KMail, and Claws Mail.

6. Messaging Services

Messaging has become an essential part of communication in recent years, and Linux users can access various messaging services. Telegram and WhatsApp are both available on Linux, and users can also use Pidgin or Empathy for instant messaging.

7. Virtualization software

Linux users can run virtual machines on their platform. VirtualBox and VMware Workstation Player are excellent virtualization tools that allow users to run other operating systems within the Linux environment.

In conclusion, Linux offers a wide range of applications that can run on its platform. The above-listed apps are just a few examples of what Linux users can access. With the growth of the open-source community, more apps are becoming available for Linux users, making it a viable alternative to other traditional operating systems.
