Types of Bangs: A Guide to the Best Styles

Bangs, also known as fringes outside of North America, are a versatile and stylish way to update your look. With a number of types to choose from, it’s easy to find a style that complements your face shape and personal aesthetic. From classic cuts to more avant-garde looks, here’s a guide to the best types of bangs that can freshen up your hairstyle.

1. Blunt Bangs

Blunt bangs are cut straight across and work well for those with thicker hair. This bold look can make a statement and is often seen paired with bobs or long, straight hairstyles.

2. Wispy Bangs

If you’re looking for something softer, wispy bangs are more subtle and feature feathered ends that blend into the rest of your hair. These bangs are perfect for adding a touch of mystery to your eyes.

3. Side-Swept Bangs

Side-swept bangs offer flexibility in styling and can range from long and flowing to short and choppy. They work for almost all face shapes and hair types, giving a chic asymmetrical appeal.

4. Curtain Bangs

Reaching peak popularity in the ‘60s and experiencing a modern renaissance, curtain bangs part in the middle and frame the face on both sides. They work beautifully with wavy hair and give off an effortlessly cool vibe.

5. Baby Bangs

For the daring fashionistas, baby bangs are ultra-short and offer an edgy look. Best suited for those who aren’t afraid to make bold choices, this style pairs well with pixie cuts or angular bobs.

6. Curly Bangs

Those with natural curls don’t have to shy away from bangs. Curly bangs embrace the natural texture of your hair and add playfulness to your hairstyle.

7. Asymmetrical Bangs

These are cut at different lengths on each side for a unique twist on traditional fringes. They can be paired with symmetrical haircuts for contrast or with asymmetrical cuts for enhanced edginess.

8. Bottleneck Bangs

Bottleneck bangs combine elements of curtain and wispy bangs, starting narrower at the top before fanning out around the eyes like the neck of a bottle, hence their name.

9. Choppy Bangs

Ideal for adding texture and volume, choppy bangs have an uneven finish that works well with layered or textured hairstyles.

10. Arched Bangs

Arched bangs are shorter in the center and longer on the sides, subtly framing the face while drawing attention to the eyes.

Each type of bang offers its own charm and can be tailored to suit individual preferences in length, thickness, and styling complexity. When considering getting bangs, consult with your hairstylist about what would work best for you based on your features and lifestyle needs.
