Top 7 Fixes When Printer on Windows 11 Keeps Printing Landscape Instead of Portrait

Dealing with a printer that keeps printing in landscape mode instead of portrait can be quite frustrating when trying to get important documents printed correctly. If you’re facing this issue on a Windows 11 system, here are the top 7 fixes you can try to correct the problem:

1. Check Print Settings: Before doing anything else, ensure that the print settings in the application you’re printing from are correct. Select ‘Portrait’ orientation rather than ‘Landscape’ in the print dialog box.

2. Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or incorrect printer drivers can cause orientation issues. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Windows Update’ and check for updates, ensuring that driver updates for your printer are included.

3. Reset Printer Preferences: Sometimes, resetting your printer’s preferences can resolve the issue. In the printer’s properties, look for an option to restore defaults or reset preferences.

4. Change Printer Defaults: Set the default orientation to portrait in your printer’s overall settings by going to ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Devices and Printers’, right-clicking your printer, selecting ‘Printing preferences’, and setting the orientation to portrait.

5. Inspect Page Setup in Applications: Within certain applications, like Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF readers, verify that page setup has not been altered to landscape mode by default.

6. Use Windows Troubleshooter: Run the Windows troubleshooter designed for printers which could detect and automatically fix problems with printing.

7. Reinstall Printer Software: As a last resort, uninstall and then reinstall your printer software which often resets configuration issues back to factory default including proper orientation settings.

Ensure you try these fixes one by one, checking if the issue has been resolved before moving on to the next one. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it may be worthwhile reaching out to your printer’s manufacturer support for further assistance or considering if there is a hardware issue at play.
