This Winter Skin Care Routine Will Leave You Glowing: Top Dermatologists’ Best Advice

As the crisp chill of winter sets in, our skin demands extra attention and pampering. Unlike the balmy summer days, cold weather can strip our skin of moisture, leaving it feeling dry and looking dull. Top dermatologists have shared their best advice for a winter skincare routine that will help maintain a healthy glow throughout the season.

Cleansing with Care: In winter, swap out those harsh cleansers for something more gentle. A creamy, hydrating cleanser can remove impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Dermatologists recommend using lukewarm water when washing your face to avoid irritation.

Hydration is Key: One of the most important steps in your winter skincare routine should be to apply a hyaluronic acid serum while your skin is still damp from cleansing. This helps to lock in moisture and keep the skin plump. Follow this with a thicker, cream-based moisturizer that contains ceramides to further combat dryness.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen: Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can skip the SPF. The winter sun can be just as damaging as the summer sun, so applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day is essential to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

Exfoliation with Caution: While exfoliating is necessary to get rid of dead skin cells, overdoing it during the colder months can be damaging. Top dermatologists suggest reducing the frequency of exfoliation and opting for gentler methods like hydrating peels or enzyme-based exfoliators.

Treat Overnight: Nighttime is when your skin goes into repair mode. Using products that contain retinol or peptides can speed up cell turnover and improve skin texture. These should be applied before bedtime to work effectively overnight.

Lips Need Love Too: Chapped lips are a common problem in winter. Applying a thick lip balm that contains ingredients like beeswax or shea butter can provide long-lasting protection against the cold air.

Handle with Care: Our hands often suffer most during winter due to constant exposure to cold air and frequent washing. Hand creams with glycerin or lanolin should be applied generously after each wash and before bedtime.

Incorporating these dermatologist-approved tips into your daily routine will ensure your skin remains healthy, supple, and radiant—even when Jack Frost comes nipping at your nose. A tailored approach to skincare during the colder months will not only protect your skin’s barrier from the harsh elements but also leave you glowing right through till spring.
