The Seven Best Uses for Your Old iPhone or iPad

Old iPhones and iPads don’t have to languish in your junk drawer. Here are seven clever ways to give your old Apple devices new life:

1. Dedicated Media Player

Transform your old iPhone or iPad into a dedicated media powerhouse. Load it with your favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks. Use it to stream media or control your smart home theater system without draining the battery on your primary device.

2. Smart Home Controller

Use your older device as a central hub for all your smart home gadgets. Mount it on a wall or place it on a stand and use it to control lights, thermostats, security cameras, and more with the touch of a button.

3. Learning Device for Kids

Repurpose an old iPad or iPhone for educational purposes. Fill it with learning apps and e-books to create an ad-hoc learning tablet for children, without worrying about them mishandling your new devices.

4. Digital Photo Frame

Turn your iPad into a dynamic digital photo frame by loading it up with your favorite photos. There are apps available that can help you create slideshows or integrate photos from social media for a constant stream of memories.

5. E-Reader

Why buy an e-reader if you have an old iPhone or iPad lying around? Install e-reader apps like Kindle or iBooks and download your favorite books for reading on-the-go without having to carry around another device.

6. Gaming Console

Dedicate your old device to gaming. With the App Store boasting an extensive library of games, you could use the older hardware as a mobile gaming unit for casual games or dedicate it to more immersive experiences if its specs can handle them.

7. Backup Phone or Internet Hotspot

Keep an old iPhone as a backup phone in case of emergencies or when traveling abroad. You can also set up the device as a portable internet hotspot; ensuring you’re never stranded without internet access wherever you go.

Give new purpose to that old technology with some creativity and benefit from these innovative uses instead of letting those devices collect dust!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
