The Role of AI in Your Edtech App

Education is a unique industry.

It’s devoted to intensive individualization. Every group of students, whether they are in third grade, 8th grade, or college, expects personalized instructional services. Although all learners must demonstrate that they understand the learning goals for each level, how they get there can take vastly different paths. Technology can help with that personalization.

Teachers customize learning for their students so that every child and young adult can master concepts and move on. Regardless of a student’s prior learning experiences and levels, the teacher must move the student forward at least one academic year. Some students require extensive intervention to meet this goal. In recent years, educators have been turning to artificial intelligence to help them bridge learning gaps and meet student needs.

If you’re designing an edtech app, think about the role AI will play in your design. Artificial intelligence is support teachers and students expect to have. When done right, it’s engaging. Finally, it’s already in use in instruction.

AI adds support

Both teachers and their students benefit from using apps that include AI. Artificial intelligence supports instruction with chatbots, grading, and taking attendance. These are tasks that can limit teacher interaction time with students. AI frees up the teacher to focus on instruction with students. Artificial intelligence also supports students by maintaining and analyzing their academic histories and setting learning objectives and timelines.

AI engages learners

Students don’t go to school for entertainment. They attend for the instruction. Their engagement in learning because of artificial intelligence. AI isn’t just entertaining; students think it’s cool. AI’s attractiveness draws in learners who might otherwise feel left out or disenfranchised. Interacting with AI can help students think and respond differently than when reading a textbook. The engagement level is higher.

Artificial intelligence may even be able to predict student engagement. In doing so, apps with AI can assist schools and their teachers in improving not only student achievement but also student well-being. That’s a lofty goal worth achieving.

Schools already use artificial intelligence; so should you

If you’re not incorporating artificial intelligence in your edtech app, you could be leaving out a familiar characteristic of most technology today. AI customizes instructional experiences. Without artificial intelligence in your edtech app, your software is nothing more than a general worksheet presented in digital form. AI allows you to customize learning experiences with the skill of a highly experienced teacher.

Better experiences begin with AI

Artificial intelligence is rapidly altering the app landscape. With AI, developers can create a seamless and hassle-free user experience in any app.  The algorithms in artificial intelligence programs collect data, look for patterns and trends, and then make an analysis or prediction regarding continued use.

Students are accustomed to relying on artificial intelligence for recommendations, email alerts and reminders, web searches, and voice assistants who answer queries.

Why would an edtech developer deprive students and educators of the AI experiences they rely on?

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
