The New Four-Cylinder Genesis G70 Is Better, But The V6 Is Still Best

The Genesis G70 has been turning heads since it was first introduced, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and value that rivals more established European competitors. For those on the hunt for an entry-level luxury sedan, the G70’s balance of comfort and driver engagement is particularly appealing.

In its latest iteration, the G70 comes with a choice between a turbocharged four-cylinder and a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The new four-cylinder model has been touted for its improvements, including better fuel efficiency and a reduced overall weight that contributes to a nimble driving experience. While these enhancements make the four-cylinder G70 a compelling choice for the eco-conscious driver or those who prioritize handling finesse over sheer power, it’s the V6 model that continues to capture the hearts of performance enthusiasts.

The V6 variant of the Genesis G70 remains the one to beat. With a robust horsepower output and impressive torque available at low RPMs, the V6 delivers exhilarating acceleration and passing power that smile-inducing experiences are made of. Moreover, when properly equipped, it features high-performance brakes and an adaptive suspension that turns driving into a dynamic event—a level of engagement that’s hard to match in this segment.

While some may argue that the turbocharged four-cylinder is all the car you need for daily driving—and they wouldn’t be wrong—the V6 offers an emotional appeal that goes beyond practical considerations. It’s not just about raw speed; it’s about feeling connected to every pulse of energy as the car hurtles forward.

To sum up, while the new four-cylinder Genesis G70 has definitely upped its game, offering an attractive blend of improvements without sacrificing what made it notable in the first place, for those who treasure performance and want to extract every bit of driving joy out of their luxury sedan, the V6 remains king. In essence, if you want better efficiency and lighter handling dynamics, go with the new four-cylinder; but if your heart craves exhilarating performance thrills, there’s no substitute for the top-tier V6.
