The History of the Samsung Galaxy S Series: From 2010 to Today

The Samsung Galaxy S series is one of the most popular and successful product lines in the smartphone industry. The series has evolved over the years, with each new release bringing new and innovative features to the market. In this article, we will take a look at the history of the Samsung Galaxy S series, from its inception in 2010 to the present day.

2010 – Samsung Galaxy S

The Samsung Galaxy S was released in 2010 and was the first phone in the Galaxy S series. It was powered by Android 2.1 Eclair and featured a 4-inch Super AMOLED display. It also had a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S was a game-changer in the smartphone industry, as it offered a large display and powerful processor at a competitive price. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the TouchWiz user interface.

2011 – Samsung Galaxy S II

The Samsung Galaxy S II was released in 2011 and was a significant upgrade over its predecessor. It featured a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and was powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. It also had 1GB of RAM and a improved 8-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S II was widely regarded as one of the best smartphones of its time, thanks to its powerful hardware and refined software. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Smart Stay feature, which kept the screen on as long as the user was looking at it.

2012 – Samsung Galaxy S III

The Samsung Galaxy S III was released in 2012 and was another major upgrade over the previous model. It featured a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. It also had 1GB of RAM and a 8-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S III was the first Samsung phone to feature the S Voice feature, which allowed users to control their phone with voice commands. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Pop Up Play feature, which allowed users to watch a video while using another app.

2013 – Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 was released in 2013 and was a significant upgrade over the previous model. It featured a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core processor. It also had 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S4 was the first Samsung phone to feature the Air Gesture feature, which allowed users to control their phone without touching the screen. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Multi Window feature, which allowed users to run two apps side by side.

2014 – Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was released in 2014 and was another major upgrade over the previous model. It featured a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor. It also had 2GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S5 was the first Samsung phone to feature the Heart Rate Monitor feature, which allowed users to track their heart rate without needing a separate device. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Ultra Power Saving Mode feature, which greatly extended the phone’s battery life.

2015 – Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 was released in 2015 and represented a major departure from previous Galaxy S models. It featured a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.1GHz quad-core processor. It also had 3GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S6 was the first Samsung phone to feature a metal and glass design, which gave the phone a more premium look and feel. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the wireless charging feature, which allowed users to charge their phone without needing a cable.

2016 – Samsung Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 was released in 2016 and was a refinement of the Galaxy S6. It featured a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor. It also had 4GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S7 was the first Samsung phone to feature the always-on display feature, which showed users important information on the screen without needing them to unlock the phone. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Dual Pixel camera, which greatly improved the phone’s low-light photography.

2017 – Samsung Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was released in 2017 and was a major departure from previous Galaxy S models. It featured a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core processor. It also had 4GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S8 was the first Samsung phone to feature the Infinity Display, which greatly reduced the bezels around the phone’s screen. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Bixby virtual assistant, which could be activated with a dedicated button on the phone.

2018 – Samsung Galaxy S9

The Samsung Galaxy S9 was released in 2018 and was a refinement of the Galaxy S8. It featured a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.8GHz octa-core processor. It also had 4GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S9 was the first Samsung phone to feature the variable aperture camera, which allowed users to switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture depending on the lighting conditions. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the AR Emoji feature, which allowed users to create animated emojis based on their own face.

2019 – Samsung Galaxy S10

The Samsung Galaxy S10 was released in 2019 and was the 10th anniversary Galaxy S model. It featured a 6.1-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.7GHz octa-core processor. It also had 8GB of RAM and a triple camera setup, including a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

The Galaxy S10 was the first Samsung phone to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which allowed for faster and more accurate fingerprint recognition. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Wireless PowerShare feature, which allowed users to wirelessly charge other devices using their phone.

2020 – Samsung Galaxy S20

The Samsung Galaxy S20 was released in 2020 and featured a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display and was powered by a 2.8GHz octa-core processor. It also had 12GB of RAM and a triple camera setup, including a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

The Galaxy S20 was the first Samsung phone to feature 5G connectivity, which allowed for faster download and upload speeds. It was also the first Samsung phone to feature the Single Take feature, which allowed users to capture multiple photos and videos with a single click.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy S series has come a long way since its inception in 2010. From its humble beginnings with the Galaxy S to the advanced and feature-packed Galaxy S20, Samsung has continued to innovate and push the boundaries of what a smartphone can do. With each new release, Samsung has shown that it is committed to providing consumers with the best possible experience, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Galaxy S series.
