The Best Way to Cook a Baked Potato in an Air Fryer

Baked potatoes are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings. Cooking them in an air fryer is a quick, convenient, and healthier option compared to traditional baking methods. Air fryers use hot air to cook the food, which reduces the need for excess oil without compromising on the crispy exterior and fluffy interior that potato lovers crave. Here’s how to cook the perfect baked potato in an air fryer.

Ingredients:

– 1 large russet potato

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– Salt (to taste)

– Pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

1. Clean the Potato: Begin by thoroughly washing the potato under cold running water. Remove any dirt or impurities from the skin, which is nutritious and delicious when cooked correctly.

2. Dry and Pierce: Dry the potato completely with a towel. Then, using a fork, pierce the skin of the potato several times on each side. This step allows steam to escape during cooking, preventing the potato from bursting in the air fryer.

3. Season: Lightly coat the potato with olive oil using a pastry brush or your hands. This not only helps with heat distribution but also ensures a crispy skin after cooking. Sprinkle salt and pepper all over the surface of the potato for added flavor.

4. Preheat Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat for a few minutes. Preheating helps cook the potato evenly.

5. Cook: Once preheated, place the potato in the air fryer basket and let it cook for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on its size. Halfway through cooking, turn the potato over to ensure even crispiness on all sides.

6. Test for Doneness: Check if the baked potato is done by inserting a fork into it. If it slides in easily with little resistance, it’s ready.

7. Serve: Carefully remove the baked potato from the air fryer—remembering it will be hot—and allow cooling briefly before slicing open on top. Fluff up the inside with a fork.

8. Top It Off: Now comes the best part – topping your baked potato! Some classic options include sour cream, chives, shredded cheese, bacon bits or even chili for those who want something heartier.

By following these simple steps, you can achieve a perfectly cooked baked potato with an irresistibly crispy skin and soft inside ready in about half an hour! Enjoy your tasty creation as a side or dress it up with toppings for a meal that’s satisfying any day of the week.
