Salalah, situated in the southern part of Oman, is a tropical paradise that often surprises visitors with its unique climate and lush greenery, especially during the Khareef or monsoon season. Here’s a look at some of the best things to do in and around this vibrant city.

Explore Al Mughsail Beach: Al Mughsail Beach is a must-visit for its serene shoreline and dramatic blowholes where sea water gushes out during high tide.

Discover the Al Baleed Archaeological Park: History buffs can step back in time at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Baleed, where the remnants of an ancient trading port and the Land of Frankincense museum can be found.

Visit the Sultan Qaboos Mosque: This stunning mosque is a symbol of Islamic architecture and offers visitors insight into Islamic culture. Non-Muslims can visit outside of prayer times.

Take a Dip in the Wadi Darbat: A natural waterpark beckons with clear pools, waterfalls, and lush vegetation especially during Khareef season. It’s perfect for picnicking and paddle boating.

Drive through Frankincense Trail: Follow the ancient routes of frankincense traders. Stop by Sumhuram, an old frankincense port, to understand its historical significance.

Venture out to Empty Quarter: For a taste of desert adventure, visit Rub’ al Khali or the Empty Quarter. It’s the largest uninterrupted sand desert in the world.

Experience Local Culture at Haffa Souq: Shop for frankincense, myrrh, and Omani handicrafts while mingling with locals at this traditional marketplace.

Spend Time in Salalah Gardens Mall: Modern shoppers will find international brands alongside local shops – perfect for escaping the midday heat or picking up souvenirs.

Bird Watching in Khawr Rori: This lagoon is a sanctuary for migrating birds; depending on the season you’ll witness a variety of species making it an ornithologist’s dream.

Trek to Jebel Samhan: The mountain plateau provides breathtaking views and might even provide sightings of Arabian leopards if you’re lucky.

From pristine beaches to ancient ruins, bustling souqs to serene deserts – Salalah is packed with hidden gems that promise an unforgettable travel experience.
