The world of podcasts is vast and varied, with shows covering virtually every topic imaginable. From true crime to tech, and from self-development to satire, there’s something out there for everyone. But with such an overwhelming array of choices, how does one find the absolute best episodes? Who better to ask than your favorite podcasters themselves?

We reached out to a selection of popular podcasters from different genres, asking them which episodes from other shows they consider must-listens. Here’s what they had to say:

1. “The Daily” – “This American Life: The Feather Heist” – Chosen by Sarah Koenig

Sarah Koenig, host of the acclaimed “Serial” podcast, recommends an episode from This American Life titled “The Feather Heist.” In this riveting episode, listeners are taken into the bizarre world of fly-tying and a heist that shook its community to the core.

2. “Dr. Death: The Shocking Story of Christopher Duntsch” – Chosen by Aaron Mahnke

Aaron Mahnke, creator of “Lore,” points fans in the direction of “Dr. Death,” particularly the harrowing story of Christopher Duntsch. It’s a chilling account that Mahnke describes as a powerful reminder about the trust we place in those sworn to protect us.

3. “Radiolab: Colors” – Chosen by Jad Abumrad

Jad Abumrad himself recommends another Radiolab episode that delves deep into sensory experiences – “Colors.” This episode explores human perception in such a unique way that it has become a classic among both listeners and podcast creators alike.

4. “Reply All: The Case of the Missing Hit” – Chosen by Alex Goldman and PJ Vogt

The hosts of “Reply All,” are big fans of their own episode known as “The Case of the Missing Hit.” A man can perfectly remember a song from his past but he can’t find any trace of it anywhere on the Internet. An entertaining journey ensues as they attempt to uncover this musical mystery.

5. “Hardcore History: Blueprint for Armageddon I” – Chosen by Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan often cites Dan Carlin’s “Hardcore History” as one of his personal favorite podcasts. Out of that series, Rogan raves about “Blueprint for Armageddon I,” for its detailed and engaging storytelling about World War I.

6. “The Habitat: Episode 1 – ‘This Is Not A Drill’” – Chosen by Roman Mars

Roman Mars from “99% Invisible” highlights “The Habitat,” which follows six people living in an imitation Mars habitat in Hawaii as part of a NASA experiment. Mars finds it fascinating because it provides insight into human behavior under unique circumstances.

7. “S-Town: Chapter I” – Chosen by Ira Glass

Finally, Ira Glass from “This American Life,” recommends “S-Town Chapter I.” It starts as an investigation into a rumored murder in a small Alabama town but morphs into a deeply personal study of one man’s life and death.

These recommendations not only come from respected voices within the podcast industry but also represent some truly standout listening experiences across a variety of genres and styles. So whether you’re a long-time podcast enthusiast or just getting your feet wet, check out these epic episodes and prepare to be hooked on your next audio adventure!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
