National parks are some of the most breathtaking places on Earth, offering more than just scenic beauty—they provide front-row seats to some of nature’s most awe-inspiring events. In this article, we’ll explore some of the best natural phenomena that you can witness in national parks around the world.

1. The Northern Lights in Denali National Park, Alaska

Nothing compares to the mystical display of the Aurora Borealis. Denali National Park is one of the best spots in the United States to witness this natural wonder. During the long, clear nights of winter and early spring, the skies above this Alaskan wilderness light up with dancing curtains of green, pink, and purple.

2. The Great Migration in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

The Serengeti is synonymous with its annual migration when over two million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle traverse the plains in a circular journey for fresh pasture. It’s a powerful manifestation of life’s perseverance and perhaps one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on the planet.

3. Volcanic Eruptions at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park provides a rare opportunity to witness Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes’ lava flows as they shape and reshape the Big Island’s landscape. Visitors can even see glowing lava lakes or watch as molten rock pours into the sea, generating plumes of steam.

4. The Superbloom in Death Valley National Park, California

Although famous for its arid conditions, Death Valley comes alive with color during a superbloom. This rare event occurs when an abundance of rainfall promotes the blooming of wildflowers and transforms the valley floor into a vibrant canvas that stretches as far as the eye can see.

5. Tidal Phenomenon in Bay of Fundy at Fundy National Park, Canada

With some of the highest tides on Earth reaching up to 16 meters (52 feet), Fundy National Park shows the incredible power of tidal forces. Watching these high tides fill up river mouths and coves is an extraordinary sight—a testament to nature’s rhythmic movement.

6. Monarch Butterfly Migration at Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve near ElRosario Sanctuary, Mexico

Experience one of nature’s most delicate migrations at this special reserve near Mexico City. Every autumn, millions of monarch butterflies travel from Canada and the U.S.A to winter here where they blanket trees in fluttering masses of orange and black wings—a truly magical spectacle.

7. Total Solar Eclipse at Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Although total solar eclipses happen roughly every 18 months somewhere on Earth, experiencing one amid Grand Teton’s peaks is exceptional. The next chance to experience this surreal phenomenon where day turns into night will be on April 8th, 2024.

Each national park presents an opportunity to connect with nature through these unique events that are as educational as they are breathtakingly beautiful. By witnessing them firsthand, visitors not only enrich their lives but also develop a deeper appreciation for protecting these natural wonders for generations to come.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
