The Best Materials to use for Puppy Housetraining – American Kennel Club

When it comes to puppy housetraining, selecting the appropriate materials can significantly influence the training’s success. According to the American Kennel Club, there are several optimal materials and products that can facilitate this developmental stage.

Firstly, for indoor training, absorbent puppy pads or a dog litter box can be practical choices. Puppy pads are highly absorbent and usually contain an attractant that encourages puppies to use them when they need to relieve themselves. A dog litter box with recyclable paper pellets is another eco-friendly option which also enables easy clean-up.

In addition to indoor solutions, creating a designated outdoor bathroom spot is essential for puppies learning to potty outside. Use natural grass or sod patches in a specific area of the yard to help your puppy associate that spot with bathroom breaks.

Crate training is another effective housebreaking method as it taps into a dog’s natural den instincts. Crates should be comfortable and only large enough for the puppy to stand up, turn around, and lie down in. This encourages puppies not to soil their sleeping area.

Furthermore, enzyme cleaners should be on your list for accident clean-ups. These cleaners break down pet waste odors and stains, thus preventing puppies from remarking spots inside the home.

Finally, investing in chew toys is important for entertainment and mental stimulation but also for discouraging chewing on inappropriate objects around the house during the teething phase.

Overall, with these tools and consistent training techniques, you’ll set the foundation for a well-behaved and housetrained pet.
