Netflix’s catalog boasts numerous shows that not only entertain but also provide representation for the LGBTQ+ community. Here’s a look at some of the best LGBTQ+ TV series available for streaming on Netflix right now.

“Sex Education” – This British comedy-drama is an insightful, heartwarming exploration of teenage sexuality and identity. With its diverse cast of characters, “Sex Education” features several LGBTQ+ storylines that are handled with humor, sensitivity, and intelligence.

“Orange Is the New Black” – One of Netflix’s earliest originals, this groundbreaking series set in a women’s prison has been praised for its portrayal of complex LGBTQ+ characters and themes. It addresses sexuality and gender identity with a raw honesty that resonates with many viewers.

“The Umbrella Academy” – Among this superhero show’s ensemble cast is a gay character whose storyline doesn’t revolve solely around his sexuality. The series presents its LGBTQ+ narratives as just one part of a wider story, normalizing diverse representation within the genre.

“Pose” – Groundbreaking for its cast of transgender actors in transgender roles, “Pose” delves into New York’s ballroom culture in the ’80s and ’90s. It celebrates the joy and heartaches of the LGBTQ+ community during this era and sheds light on issues like HIV/AIDS.

“Queer Eye” – More than just makeovers, Netflix’s reboot of the reality show is equal parts warmth and inspiration. The Fab Five empower individuals to lead better lives, while offering insights into the lives and struggles of those within and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” – While technically not a Netflix Original (it acquired distribution rights for many regions outside the U.S.), “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has become synonymous with drag culture. Celebrating charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, it invites viewers into an often underrepresented segment of the LGBTQ+ community.

These are just a few examples highlighting that diverse storytelling is alive and well on Netflix. These shows break barriers and foster understanding by bringing LGBTQ+ stories to screens around the world.
