Spread the love

Bringing nature indoors can transform your living space, but not all rooms are blessed with ample sunlight. Here’s a list of the best indoor trees and plants that thrive in low-light conditions:

Indoor Trees for Low Light

  1. Dracaena
    • Varieties like corn plant (Dracaena fragrans) and dragon tree (Dracaena marginata)
    • Tolerates low light and irregular watering
    • Can grow up to 6 feet tall indoors
  2. Ficus Benjamina (Weeping Fig)
    • Elegant tree with glossy leaves
    • Prefers consistent conditions but can adapt to low light
    • Can reach heights of 10 feet or more indoors
  3. Kentia Palm (Howea forsteriana)
    • Slow-growing palm with a tropical feel
    • Tolerates low light and dry air
    • Can grow up to 10 feet tall indoors
  4. Umbrella Plant (Schefflera arboricola)
    • Features glossy, hand-shaped leaves
    • Adapts well to low light conditions
    • Can grow up to 8 feet tall indoors
  5. Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)
    • Known for its large, glossy leaves
    • Tolerates low to moderate light
    • Can grow up to 8 feet tall indoors

Low-Light Plants

  1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)
    • Nearly indestructible, tolerates very low light
    • Helps purify air by removing toxins
    • Various sizes and leaf patterns available
  2. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)
    • Thrives in low light and requires minimal water
    • Glossy, dark green leaves
    • Slow-growing but can reach 3 feet tall
  3. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)
    • Fast-growing vine with heart-shaped leaves
    • Tolerates low light and irregular watering
    • Great for hanging baskets or as a climbing plant
  4. Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema)
    • Tolerates low light and dry conditions
    • Available in various leaf patterns and colors
    • Generally grows to about 2 feet tall
  5. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
    • Thrives in low to moderate light
    • Produces white flowers
    • Helps purify air and tolerates occasional overwatering
  6. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
    • Easy to grow and propagate
    • Tolerates low light and irregular watering
    • Produces baby plants that can be replanted
  7. Philodendron
    • Various species available, including heartleaf philodendron
    • Adapts well to low light conditions
    • Can be grown as a trailing or climbing plant
  8. Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior)
    • Extremely tolerant of low light and neglect
    • Slow-growing with dark green leaves
    • Can reach heights of 2-3 feet

Remember, while these plants tolerate low light, they may grow slower or produce fewer leaves in such conditions. Rotate your plants occasionally to ensure even growth, and clean the leaves regularly to maximize their ability to absorb light.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
