The Best Homemade Caesar Salad

There’s something about a homemade Caesar salad that just doesn’t compare with one from the store. The crispy romaine, the creamy dressing, the crunchy croutons, all topped with Parmesan cheese, makes it a classic favorite that’s perfect for any occasion. Making your own Caesar salad at home allows you to customize ingredients to your taste and ensures the freshest flavor possible.

Start by creating the base of your salad with fresh, crisp romaine lettuce. Tear it into bite-sized pieces for easy eating. Homemade croutons add a satisfying crunch and are simple to make. Just cube some day-old bread, toss it with olive oil and your choice of seasonings, and bake until golden brown.

The heart of a Caesar salad is its dressing. The traditional recipe calls for anchovies, garlic, egg yolks, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce blended together to form a rich emulsion. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese adds depth of flavor and creamy texture. For those hesitant about using raw egg yolks, pasteurized eggs or quality mayonnaise can be used as a base without sacrificing the velvety consistency that is characteristic of this dressing.

Toss everything together ensuring each leaf is coated in the tangy dressing. Serve as a side or top with grilled chicken or salmon for a fulfilling meal. Don’t forget an extra sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and a twist of black pepper for that final touch.

Homemade Caesar salad is not only delicious but also showcases the importance of fresh ingredients and the joy of creating something wholesome from scratch. With its rich flavors and varied textures, it’s no wonder this salad has stood the test of time as a beloved classic in households and restaurants alike.
