Cape Town, fondly known as the Mother City, is a hub of culture, cuisine, and breathtaking scenery. While the city itself brims with attractions, the surrounding areas also offer a treasure trove of activities for day trippers. Here are some of the best day trips to venture on from Cape Town:

1. Cape Peninsula Tour – A scenic drive around the Cape Peninsula is an absolute must-do. Highlights include visiting the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, exploring Cape Point Nature Reserve, and stopping at the southwesternmost point of Africa at the Cape of Good Hope.

2. Wine Tasting in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek – A short drive from Cape Town will land wine enthusiasts in South Africa’s most famous wine regions. Spend the day sipping on world-class wines and enjoying gourmet food in picturesque vineyard settings.

3. Whale Watching in Hermanus – Hermanus is known for offering some of the best shore-based whale watching in the world between June and November. The charming coastal town is just a couple of hours away and perfect for a day trip.

4. West Coast National Park – The wildflowers of the West Coast National Park are a spectacular sight during spring (August to October). Langebaan Lagoon also offers superb bird watching, water sports, and beautiful beaches.

5. Robben Island – A trip to Robben Island provides a significant historical overview where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. Ferries depart from the V&A Waterfront and include an informative tour of the former penal colony.

6. Ceres Zip Line Tour – For adventure seekers, Ceres offers one of the longest zip-line tours in Africa. The Schurweberg Mountains provide not only an adrenaline rush but also offer sweeping views of the valley.

These day trips from Cape Town show just how varied and exciting South African excursions can be, all within reach of this vibrant city nestled between mountain and sea.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
