The Best and Worst Places to Put Mirrors in Your Home

Mirrors are not just functional items in your house, they are also powerful design tools that have the ability to transform a space. However, their placement can lead to either a positive or negative effect on the overall aesthetics and energy of your home. Let’s explore some of the best and worst places to hang mirrors.

Best Places for Mirrors:

1. Entryways: A mirror in the entryway is not only practical for a quick check before you leave the house, but it can also make a small area appear larger and more inviting.

2. Living Room: A large mirror in the living room can act as a statement piece as well as bounce natural light around, making the space feel more vibrant and spacious.

3. End of hallways: A mirror at the end of a long hallway can interrupt the tunnel-like effect and add some depth and interest to the area.

4. Dining Area: Placing a mirror where it can reflect the dining table enhances brightness during meals and can create an illusion of a more substantial gathering space.

5. Bedroom: Installing a full-length mirror in a bedroom is not only useful for dressing but when placed opposite a window, it can vastly increase illumination and give an impression of an enlarged room.

Worst Places for Mirrors:

1. Facing Each Other: Placing mirrors directly opposite each other creates an unsettling infinity loop effect, which can be disorienting and is generally considered bad Feng Shui.

2. Above the Bed: Sleeping with something reflective above you can be disruptive. It’s often seen as a negative in Feng Shui practices, and physically, it may pose a hazard if not secured properly.

3. On the Ceiling: Apart from tacky aesthetics outside specific decorative themes, mirrors on ceilings are typically viewed as tasteless and could create uncomfortable energy in a room.

4. Facing Clutter: When you place a mirror such that it reflects cluttered areas, you double visual disorder, which psychologically leads to increased stress levels and discomfort within your living space.

5. Directly Across from the Front Door: According to Feng Shui principles, placing a mirror right in front of the main entrance may push away positive energy or chi entering the home.

Remember, mirrors are potent décor elements; when placed thoughtfully they can elevate your living environment, but misplaced they can do quite the opposite. So choose wisely to ensure your home benefits from both utility and beauty!

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
