Yoga is not only a physical practice but also a mental one, and incorporating it into your evening routine can help calm your mind before bed. Here are the 8 best yoga poses that promote relaxation and can prepare you for a good night’s sleep:

1. Balasana (Child’s Pose) – This pose gently stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles while reducing stress and fatigue. Kneel on the floor, touch your big toes together, sit on your heels, then separate your knees about hip-width apart. Exhale and lay your torso down between your thighs.

2. Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose) – This restorative pose invigorates the legs and feet, relaxes the back, and calms the nervous system. Place your legs up against a wall while lying flat on your back with a small cushion under your hips for support.

3. Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose) – Known for its capacity to stimulate the heart and improve general circulation, this pose also helps relieve symptoms of stress and mild depression. Lie on your back, bend your knees, and bring the soles of your feet together as you let your knees fall open to both sides.

4. Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend) – This pose helps relieve tension in the spine, neck, and back while enhancing the sense of peace and calmness. Stand upright, exhale as you hinge at your hips to lean forward, keeping the legs straight.

5. Sukhasana (Easy Pose) with Forward Bend – A simple seated posture that opens the hips and lengthens the spine. With crossed shins and hands resting on knees or folded in lap, hinge at hips to fold forward calmly.

6. Ananda Balasana (Happy Baby Pose) – Relieves stress and fatigue as you gently stretch the inner groin and spine. Lie on your back, grab the outside edges of your feet with both hands while bringing your knees towards your armpits.

7. Marjaryasana-Bitilasana (Cat-Cow Pose) – This sequence is great for bringing flexibility to the spine while calming the mind through focused breath work. On all fours, switch between arching your back upwards (Cat) and sinking it down (Cow).

8. Savasana (Corpse Pose) – Essential for complete relaxation at the end of a yoga session; it calms the brain and helps relieve stress. Lie flat on your back with arms at sides facing up; close eyes and breathe deeply for several minutes.

Practicing these yoga poses can transition both body and mind into a peaceful state conducive to sleep. Remember to breathe deeply during each pose to maximize their calming effects. Sweet dreams!
