1. PayPal: One of the most widely used payment platforms for freelancers, PayPal is known for its ease of use, quick transfers, and broad international reach. It supports multiple currencies and offers protection for both senders and receivers.

2. Payoneer: Popular among freelancers for its ability to process transactions in various currencies, Payoneer also provides a debit card that can be used at ATMs worldwide, making it a convenient option for freelancers who need flexible access to their funds.

3. TransferWise (now Wise): This platform is best known for its real exchange rates and low transaction fees. Wise is ideal for freelancers who work with international clients and need an efficient way to receive payments in different currencies.

4. Stripe: Stripe is appreciated by freelance developers and web designers for its straightforward integration into websites and online platforms. It’s also user-friendly for invoice-based payments and recurring billing.

5. QuickBooks Payments: For freelancers who already use QuickBooks for accounting, QuickBooks Payments can be a convenient option, allowing them to accept credit card payments directly within the platform and automatically sync with their financial records.

6. Square: Known primarily for point-of-sale transactions, Square also allows freelancers to invoice clients and accept payments online. It provides a simple interface along with hardware options for those who occasionally sell goods in person.

7. Zelle: For freelancers and clients within the United States, Zelle offers instant transfers without any fees. However, both parties must have U.S. bank accounts, and the service integrates with many banking apps directly.

8. Venmo: Venmo is popular among smaller clients and individual customers due to its ease of account setup and mobile convenience. While it’s more informal compared to other platforms on this list, it still serves as a quick way to receive payments from clients who prefer using mobile payment services.

These platforms each have their own strengths in terms of fees, ease of use, international currency support, integration capabilities with accounting software or the required speed of payment transfer. Freelancers should consider these factors when choosing the best payment platform to suit their specific business needs.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
