The 1980s was a golden era for parody films, with filmmakers cleverly spoofing popular genres and specific movies. Here are the 10 best parody movies from this decade:
⦁ Airplane! (1980): This disaster movie spoof set the standard for the genre with its rapid-fire gags and deadpan delivery.
⦁ This Is Spinal Tap (1984): Rob Reiner’s mockumentary about a fictional heavy metal band is a hilarious satire of rock documentaries and the music industry.
⦁ The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988): Leslie Nielsen stars in this uproarious spoof of police procedurals and crime dramas.
⦁ Blazing Saddles (1974): While technically from the 70s, this Mel Brooks classic influenced 80s parodies with its irreverent take on Western films.
⦁ Top Secret! (1984): From the makers of Airplane!, this film parodies spy movies and Elvis Presley musicals.
⦁ Spaceballs (1987): Mel Brooks takes on sci-fi epics, particularly Star Wars, in this beloved comedy.
⦁ Hot Shots! (1991): Though released in 1991, this Top Gun parody embodies the spirit of 80s spoofs.
⦁ UHF (1989): Weird Al Yankovic stars in this cult classic that parodies television and pop culture.
⦁ Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (1982): Steve Martin leads this clever noir spoof that incorporates footage from classic films.
⦁ I’m Gonna Git You Sucka (1988): Keenen Ivory Wayans directs this hilarious send-up of blaxploitation films.
These films not only provided laughs but also showcased the art of parody at its finest, influencing comedy for decades to come.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
