Smash Mouth’s “All Star” is not just a late 1990s anthem; it’s a cultural touchstone that has been used in a plethora of movies and TV shows to capture a certain irrepressible spirit. The song, with its catchy hook and upbeat tempo, has become synonymous with fun and celebration. Here we rank the best uses of “All Star” in movies and TV:

1. Shrek (2001) – Without a doubt, the most iconic use of “All Star” comes from the opening sequence of ‘Shrek.’ As the titular character embarks on his day, the song perfectly encapsulates Shrek’s carefree attitude and sets the tone for the entire movie. It’s an unforgettable moment that cemented “All Star” as an evergreen hit.

2. Rat Race (2001) – In this madcap comedy, “All Star” plays during a sequence where the cast of characters engages in a high-speed chase for a fortune. The energetic beat of the song adds to the chaos and hilarity, making it one of the film’s memorable highlights.

3. Mystery Men (1999) – The song originally appeared on this superhero comedy’s soundtrack and was arguably what helped propel it to fame. Whenever “All Star” kicks in, it underscores the film’s quirky, underdog vibe.

4. Digimon: The Movie (2000) – Aimed at younger audiences, this animated adventure infused energy into a pivotal scene with Smash Mouth’s hit, creating an oddly perfect complement to digital monster battles.

5. What’s New, Scooby-Doo? (2002) – Television also embraced “All Star,” and it found its way into episodes like “It’s Mean, It’s Green, It’s the Mystery Machine,” where its peppy rhythm provided a backdrop to Scooby and the gang’s antics.

6. Rat Race (2001) – Yes again because notably, it is used during both the film’s exciting intro sequence and later in another comedic highlight — proof that you can never have enough “All Star.”

Each use of “All Star” has found its way to resonate with audiences by enhancing comedic moments or emphasizing characters’ coolness without fail.”
