Sarajevo Film Festival Gets Dramatic Facelift for Historic 30th Edition With New Event and Industry Hub: ‘We Are Fully Focused on the Future’
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – The Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) is preparing for a momentous 30th edition, marked by a bold transformation designed to solidify its position as a leading force in the international film landscape. This year, the festival is not only celebrating three decades of championing cinema, but also embracing a future brimming with exciting new initiatives.
The most striking addition is the launch of CineLink Industry Days, a dedicated hub aimed at boosting the region’s burgeoning film industry. This new initiative, running concurrently with the festival, will bring together filmmakers, producers, distributors, and industry professionals from around the globe. CineLink Industry Days will offer a platform for networking, workshops, and pitching sessions, fostering collaboration and empowering the development of new cinematic voices.
“We are fully focused on the future,” explains Mirsad Purivatra, the festival’s director. “The CineLink Industry Days represent a major step forward for us. It’s about creating a space for talent to connect, learn, and build their careers. We want to empower filmmakers from the region to reach the international stage.”
The festival’s core program remains a beacon of cinematic excellence, boasting a diverse and thought-provoking selection of films. This year, the lineup will feature a captivating blend of world premieres, international classics, and award-winning documentaries. The focus on diverse storytelling, particularly from the Balkans and beyond, remains a cornerstone of the festival’s identity.
The new edition also introduces Sarajevo City of Film, an innovative event that will transform the city into an open-air cinema. This initiative will see screenings take place across various locations, showcasing the city’s cultural vibrancy and attracting audiences to new cinematic experiences.
“We believe that film can be a powerful tool for social change, cultural understanding, and dialogue,” says Purivatra. “The Sarajevo Film Festival has always been a platform for voices from the region and beyond, and we’re committed to continuing that legacy.”
The 30th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival promises to be a celebration of cinema, a showcase of talent, and a catalyst for a brighter future for filmmaking in the region. As the festival gears up for its anniversary, the air is thick with anticipation, excitement, and a renewed commitment to the power of cinema to inspire, educate, and connect us all.
