The Star Wars Expanded Universe, now branded under the Legends banner, is filled with compelling and nefarious villains that have captured the imagination of fans for decades. From dark side adepts to cunning military strategists, these antagonists have added incredible depth and intrigue to the Star Wars saga. Here we rank some of the best Star Wars Legends villains based on their impact, personality, and depth of character.

1.Grand Admiral Thrawn – A master tactician with a deep appreciation for art and culture, Thrawn is often considered one of the greatest military minds in the galaxy. Cool-headed and brilliant, his strategies often bring the New Republic to its knees.

2.Darth Bane – The Sith Lord responsible for creating the Rule of Two—a master and an apprentice—which has a profound influence on Sith philosophy. His story is one of cunning and ruthless ambition as he seeks to preserve Sith knowledge and power.

3.Prince Xizor – The head of the notorious Black Sun crime syndicate, Xizor is as charming as he is diabolical. With a personal vendetta against Darth Vader, he becomes a formidable player in the galaxy’s underworld.

4.Emperor Vitiate – Also known as Valkorion or Tenebrae, he’s an ancient Sith Emperor with limitless ambition. His ability to manipulate events across centuries places him among the most dangerous Sith in history.

5.Exar Kun – Once a promising Jedi Knight who falls to the dark side, Exar Kun’s quest for power leads him to become a Sith Lord who wreaks havoc during the Old Republic era.

6.Darth Revan – A complex figure who walks both paths of the Force: first as a Jedi Knight and hero, then as a Sith Lord, and eventually returning to the light side again. Revan’s strategic mind influences galactic events long after his time.

7.Lumiya – The Dark Lady of the Sith who carries out her twisted form of justice in pursuit of bringing about a new age for the Sith. Her manipulations lead to some of the darkest moments in Luke Skywalker’s life.

8.Nil Spaar – The Viceroy of the Yevethan Protectorate is known for his xenophobic policies and for leading a brutal campaign against the New Republic during the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy.

9.Joruus C’baoth – A mad clone of a Jedi Master who’s obsessed with power and control—C’baoth’s delusions have him believing that it is his destiny to rule over others as their superior.

10.Yuuzhan Vong Warlords – These leaders of an extra-galactic invasion force are distinct with their rejection of technology, worship of pain and sacrifice, and ruthless tactics that leave even seasoned Jedi struggling.

Honorable mentions include figures like Darth Malak, Warlord Zsinj, and Kyp Durron for their memorable roles in various conflicts across the Star Wars universe.

These Legends villains have provided hours of engrossing narratives outside of what was portrayed on screen while expanding our understanding of good versus evil within this far-reaching galaxy far away. Each left an indelible mark on Star Wars lore, ensuring their stories endure in fans’ memories even as new chapters are written under Disney’s stewardship.
