Lexus has been at the forefront of luxury and innovation since its inception, with the LS model being the flagship sedan that set high standards for comfort, performance, and craftsmanship. Over the years, there have been several generations of the Lexus LS, each with its own unique design and technological advancements. Here is a ranking of every Lexus LS generation from worst to best.

5. Fourth Generation (XF40; 2007–2017)

Beginning our list at the bottom is the fourth-generation LS. While still a remarkable vehicle with advancements such as the first production eight-speed automatic transmission and an extended wheelbase option, it faces stiff competition from its siblings due to its more conservative evolution in design and tech.

4. First Generation (XF10; 1989–1994)

The first-generation Lexus LS made waves in the automotive industry with its introduction. As the original, it set high standards with its exceptional quality and quiet ride. However, it ranks just above the fourth generation mostly because of nostalgia and its groundbreaking status at its launch.

3. Third Generation (XF30; 2001–2006)

Third place goes to the third-generation LS. This model brought significant technology upgrades including adaptive cruise control, a six-speed automatic transmission, and improved driving dynamics which catered to a slightly more performance-oriented clientele without sacrificing comfort.

2. Fifth Generation (XF50; 2017–present)

In second place is the current fifth generation. The XF50 represents a bold leap forward in design language and technology, offering features like semi-autonomous driving capabilities, an exquisite executive package with reclining rear seats, and a striking spindle grille that redefined Lexus’ design aesthetics.

1. Second Generation (XF20; 1994–2000)

Topping our list as the best Lexus LS generation is the second generation LS, an exemplary mix of refinement, reliability, and advancements over its predecessor. It introduced Lexus’ philosophy of continuous improvement, effectively setting new benchmarks for luxury sedans that future generations would build upon.

Each generation reflects Lexus’ commitment to luxury and quality while pushing boundaries in automotive excellence. Regardless of where they rank on this list, every generation of the Lexus LS has played a defining role in shaping what a luxury sedan should be.
