Introduction

Putty is a commonly used software for remote access and communication on Linux and other Unix-based systems. However, like any other software, it is also prone to errors, and one such error is “Putty Network Error: Connection Refused”. In this article, we will discuss what this error means, its possible causes, and ways to fix it.

What is Putty Network Error: Connection Refused?

Putty Network Error: Connection Refused is an error message displayed by Putty when it fails to establish a connection with the intended target system. The error usually occurs when the target system is not available or the Putty client is unable to establish a connection with the remote system due to network or firewall issues.

Causes of Putty Network Error: Connection Refused

Several reasons may cause Putty Network Error: Connection Refused. Some of the most common reasons are as follows:

1. Incorrect IP Address or Port Number: If the IP address or port number entered in Putty client for establishing a connection is incorrect, Putty will not be able to connect to the target system.

2. Network or Firewall issues: If the target system is behind a firewall, the firewall may be preventing Putty from establishing a connection. Similarly, if there are network issues like packet loss, Putty may not be able to connect to the target system.

3. Remote System not available: If the target system is not available or is turned off, Putty will not be able to connect to it.

Fixing Putty Network Error: Connection Refused

The following are some of the ways to fix Putty Network Error: Connection Refused:

1. Check IP Address and Port Number: The first step is to verify the IP address and port number entered into Putty client for establishing a connection. Ensure that the IP address and port number entered are correct.

2. Check Network and Firewall: If the target system is behind a firewall, ensure that the firewall is not blocking the connection. Similarly, if there are network issues like packet loss, fix them to establish a successful connection.

3. Verify Remote System Availability: Check if the remote system is available or turned on. If it is turned off, turn it on and try to connect again.

Conclusion

Putty Network Error: Connection Refused is a common error that occurs when Putty fails to establish a connection with the target system. The error may occur due to incorrect IP address or port number, network or firewall issues, or remote system unavailability. By checking and fixing these issues, Putty Network Error: Connection Refused can be resolved, and users can establish a successful remote connection.
