Pixel 7 Review: Slightly Better Phone, Same $599 Price

Google has once again made a splash in the smartphone world with the release of its Pixel 7. While it does boast some minor upgrades over its predecessor, the Pixel 6, it still holds on to the same $599 price tag. So, let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from the Pixel 7 and if it’s worth upgrading from previous versions.

Display and Design

The Pixel 7 features a slightly larger display than the Pixel 6, with its 6.3-inch OLED panel offering crisp colors and sharp visuals. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus for added durability. The phone maintains its minimal design with thin bezels surrounding the screen, giving it an appealing streamlined appearance.

Hardware and Performance

Under the hood, the Pixel 7 comes powered by Google’s custom-built Tensor chip, much like its predecessor. With minor performance tweaks and optimization, you can expect marginally better performance from this new model. The upgraded RAM of 8GB ensures smooth multitasking capabilities.

Camera

Slight improvements have been made to both the rear and front-facing cameras on the Pixel 7, ensuring that users retain access to flagship-quality photography at a mid-range price point. The primary camera now features an improved sensor for better low-light performance and overall image quality.

Battery Life

With a modest increase in battery capacity to 4,600mAh, the Pixel 7 should comfortably last users through a full day of use. Google has also included faster-charging support to help decrease charging times when you need to top off your battery.

Software Features

The Pixel 7 runs on Android 12 out of the box and offers three years of guaranteed software updates, ensuring your phone stays up-to-date without any hiccups. Apart from that, there haven’t been any significant changes in terms of software features from the Pixel 6.

Conclusion

Overall, the Google Pixel 7 is a slightly better version of its predecessor, with incremental enhancements across various departments. While it may not necessarily warrant an upgrade for existing Pixel 6 owners, those considering purchasing a mid-range phone at a reasonable price could find the Pixel 7 to be the perfect option. With its excellent camera capabilities, clean software experience, and impressive hardware upgrades, Google has managed to develop a well-rounded smartphone while maintaining the same $599 price point.
