Motorola Moto Z4 review: The cheapest 5G phone you can buy but shouldn’t

In today’s world, 5G technology has become the latest talk of the town. With faster internet speeds and seamless connectivity, everyone seems eager to hop on the bandwagon. Motorola has made a mark on this race by introducing their cheapest 5G phone, the Motorola Moto Z4. If you’re considering buying this for its 5G capabilities, this article will help you make an educated decision.

Design and Display

At first glance, Motorola Moto Z4 appears sleek and modern. It comes with a 6.4-inch OLED screen that boasts a full HD+ resolution. While the display quality is impressive and perfect for multimedia consumption, there are stronger options in this price range.

Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, Motorola Moto Z4 packs a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset that is supported by 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB). Although it handles day-to-day tasks with ease, the performance falters when it comes to heavy gaming or multitasking. The battery life of the Moto Z4 is adequate, thanks to its 3,600mAh power source that can support a day’s usage without any issues.

Camera

Motorola Moto Z4 features a single-lens primary camera containing a 48MP sensor along with Night Vision mode. The camera performance is decent for its price range but struggles in low-light conditions. The selfie camera packs a 25MP sensor which performs reasonably well in well-lit environments but displays noise in low-light situations.

5G Compatibility

The most significant selling point of the Motorola Moto Z4 is its compatibility with the optional Moto Mods accessory that enables 5G connectivity. However, there are some caveats here – not only do you need to purchase the pricey 5G Mod separately, but the phone only supports 5G on Verizon’s network. This means if you’re not a Verizon customer or plan to use another carrier, the 5G option becomes irrelevant.

Conclusion

The Motorola Moto Z4 tries to cater to the demand for affordable 5G smartphones but falls short in some key areas. Although it has some decent specs and a comparatively low price tag, its true 5G capabilities come with caveats. If you’re looking for a pure 5G experience, it’s better to consider other options in the market that offer more comprehensive support for 5G technology at a slightly higher price but with improved overall performance.
