Minecraft Realms: Are They Worth It?

Minecraft has been around for over a decade now, and it is still one of the most popular video games in the world. One of the most impressive features about Minecraft is the ability to play with friends, no matter where they are in the world. Over the years, Minecraft has evolved to make online play even easier with the introduction of Minecraft Realms. But what exactly are Minecraft Realms, and are they worth it?

Minecraft Realms is a subscription-based service offered by Mojang that provides players with a private server where they can play Minecraft with friends. The service is especially useful for players who struggle with the technical aspects of setting up a private server. Instead of managing the server themselves, Minecraft Realms users can rely on Mojang’s server infrastructure to keep the game running smoothly.

One of the best things about Minecraft Realms is how easy it is to set up. Creating a new Minecraft Realm only takes a few minutes, and once it is up and running, players can invite their friends to join them. Minecraft Realms supports up to ten players at a time, which is ideal for small groups of friends. Setting up Minecraft Realms lets you play with your friends without having to worry about public servers or unsolicited players joining in.

There is also no need to worry about server maintenance: Minecraft Realms are updated automatically, and Mojang takes care of all the backend work to make sure the servers run smoothly. Players on Minecraft Realms can also safely leave the game without risking losing their progress, as the game saves regularly and automatically.

Of course, there is a cost associated with Minecraft Realms, and the service is not cheap. The monthly subscription for Minecraft Realms costs $7.99, although players can get a slight discount if they purchase a six-month or twelve-month subscription. Additionally, Minecraft Realms only supports the vanilla version of Minecraft, which means that users cannot add mods, plugins, or custom textures.

The question, then, is whether Minecraft Realms is worth it. Ultimately, the answer depends on what you are looking for in a Minecraft experience. If you want a hassle-free way to play Minecraft with a small group of friends, Minecraft Realms may be the perfect solution. The service is easy to set up, easy to use, and provides a secure and private environment for gameplay.

However, if you are looking for a more customizable Minecraft experience, you may want to look for other solutions. Minecraft Realms doesn’t support mods or customization, and you’ll find yourself pretty limited in that regard. However, for those who want a secure and stable place to play Minecraft with their friends, Minecraft Realms is an excellent option.

In the end, Minecraft Realms may not be for everyone, but those who do make use of the service generally find it to be worth the investment. For true fans of Minecraft who prefer a small, controlled environment to play with their friends, Minecraft Realms is undoubtedly an option worth checking out.
