LG G6 review: A good phone if you can find it cheap, but there are better LGs to choose from

The LG G6 was released in 2017 and marked a significant shift in design and functionality for the brand. Although it is no longer the latest offering from LG, it still has some notable features that may catch your eye. This review will take a closer look at the LG G6, help you decide whether it’s a good buy at a discounted price, and compare it with some other LG smartphones.

Design and Display

The LG G6 boasts an attractive, glass-and-metal design with a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ FullVision display. Its 18:9 aspect ratio offers a widescreen experience for viewing content or playing games. It is both water and dust resistant with an IP68 rating, and its Gorilla Glass protection ensures durability.

Performance and Battery Life

The LG G6 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood. It’s not the most advanced chipset in 2021, but it can handle day-to-day tasks easily and offer decent performance on older games too.
The device has a moderate battery life of 3,300mAh capacity which can last up to a day under normal usage conditions. However, heavy users might struggle to get through the entire day without needing a charge.

Cameras

The G6 features dual 13MP rear cameras – one for regular shots and the other for wide-angle shots. The camera performance is good in well-lit environments, but it may struggle with low-light conditions. The front-facing 5MP camera is not among the best selfie cameras but does produce acceptable results.

Software

Although the LG G6 originally shipped with Android Nougat (7.0), it received an upgrade to Android Oreo (8.0) and later to Android Pie (9.0). Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that the G6 will receive any future software updates.

Alternatives

With the launch of newer LG models like the LG V40 ThinQ, LG G7 ThinQ, and LG G8 ThinQ, there are better options available if you’re willing to pay a little more for a newer device. These smartphones offer improved performance, better cameras, and a longer expected software support life.

Conclusion

The LG G6 is a good phone that’s worth considering if you can find one at a heavily discounted price. However, with similar pricing available on some newer models these days, it may be worth paying a little extra for a more powerful and up-to-date smartphone from LG that offers enhanced features and better overall value.
