Joy-Cons vs. Pro Controller: Which Should You Use With Your Nintendo Switch?

As a Nintendo Switch owner, you know that the console is a unique hybrid system that allows you to play games on the go or on the TV. One of the unique features of the console is the ability to use different controllers to play your games. The two primary controllers for the Nintendo Switch are the Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller. In this article, we will explore the differences between these two controllers and help you decide which one is best for you.

Joy-Cons

Joy-Cons are the standard controllers that come with the Nintendo Switch. They are small and lightweight, making them perfect for on-the-go gaming. Joy-Cons come in pairs, and each set has a left and right Joy-Con. They can be used separately or attached to the Switch console itself. When attached to the console, the Joy-Cons also act as the console’s main controller.

Each Joy-Con has buttons, a joystick, and motion-control capabilities. The left Joy-Con features a capture button that allows you to take screenshots and record video. The right Joy-Con has an infrared camera that can detect shapes and movements.

One of the unique features of Joy-Cons is their ability to be used individually or together as one controller. This feature is perfect for multiplayer games or for playing games that require motion control.

Pro Controller

The Pro Controller is an additional controller that you can purchase separately. It is a more traditional controller and is similar in design to the Xbox and PlayStation controllers. The Pro Controller has a more comfortable and ergonomic design that makes it perfect for long gaming sessions. It also has larger buttons and joysticks that make it easier to use.

The Pro Controller has all the features of the Joy-Cons, including motion control, but it also has additional features such as HD rumble, built-in amiibo functionality, and a rechargeable battery.

Which One Should You Use?

The decision between Joy-Cons and Pro Controller ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you plan on using your Nintendo Switch primarily for on-the-go gaming or multiplayer games, then Joy-Cons are the way to go. However, if you plan on playing for longer periods and want a more comfortable and traditional controller, then the Pro Controller is the better option.

Furthermore, the type of game you are playing may also influence your decision. For example, games that require motion control will work better with Joy-Cons, while games that require more traditional controls will work better with a Pro Controller.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both the Joy-Cons and Pro Controller are excellent controllers for the Nintendo Switch, and each one has its own advantages. Ultimately, the decision comes down to personal preference and the type of games you plan on playing. Consider your gaming habits and the types of games you enjoy playing before making a decision. Regardless of which controller you choose, you can enjoy all the amazing games that the Nintendo Switch has to offer.
