Jane Goodall and Youth Activist Xiye Bastida Talk Picking Leaders Who Prioritize the Planet

In a powerful conversation, renowned primatologist Jane Goodall and young climate activist Xiye Bastida shed light on the crucial role of leadership in tackling the climate crisis. The two advocates, united by their passion for the planet, stressed the importance of electing leaders who prioritize environmental sustainability.

Goodall, known for her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees, highlighted the interconnectedness of all living beings and the urgent need for humans to act as responsible stewards of the Earth. “We are part of nature, not separate from it,” she emphasized, urging listeners to consider the long-term consequences of their choices.

Bastida, a 20-year-old Mexican-American climate activist, brought a youthful perspective to the discussion. She spoke about the need for leaders who understand the urgency of the climate crisis and are willing to make bold, transformative changes. “We need leaders who are willing to listen to the science, who are willing to stand up for the future of our planet,” she asserted.

Both women stressed the importance of holding elected officials accountable for their environmental policies. “We need to be vocal,” Goodall said, encouraging individuals to engage in political activism and demand action from their representatives. Bastida added, “We have the power to change the system, but we need to use it. We need to vote, we need to advocate, we need to make our voices heard.”

The conversation offered a powerful message of hope and action. By combining the wisdom of a seasoned conservationist with the passionate energy of a young activist, Goodall and Bastida provided a compelling call to action: elect leaders who prioritize the planet and demand accountability from those in power. The future of our planet depends on it.
