1. Choose a medium: Decide whether you want to use a physical notebook or a digital platform for your diary. Both options have their pros and cons, so pick what feels most comfortable and accessible for you.

2. Find a comfortable environment: Pick a quiet and relaxing space where you can write without interruptions. This will help you focus on your thoughts and emotions.

3. Set a regular schedule: Determine the frequency of your diary entries (daily, weekly, etc.) and choose a time to devote solely to writing.

4. Create a structure for each entry: Start by noting the date, time, and location of your entry. You can also include weather conditions or any other significant details about your surroundings.

5. Begin with an emotional check-in: Ask yourself how you feel in that exact moment and note it down. This could be as simple as “happy” or “stressed,” or more in-depth like exploring the reasons for those emotions.

6. Describe your day’s events: Give a chronological account of the highlights of your day, whether they’re mundane tasks or exciting experiences.

7. Recall meaningful conversations: Elaborate on any significant discussions that occurred during the day, including interesting topics and how they affected you emotionally.

8. Reflect on your feelings: Analyze the emotions associated with specific incidents in your day. Taking the time to process these feelings can enhance self-awareness and personal growth.

9. Include personal observations: Write about any insights you gained about yourself, others, or the world around you during the course of your day.

10. Set goals and plans: Outline objectives or plans for upcoming days or weeks based on daily experiences and insights—this helps provide direction and purpose in our lives.

11. Be genuine and authentic: Write truthfully about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences while embracing vulnerability to foster deep self-awareness.

12. Keep your diary private: Ensure that your diary entries remain confidential to maintain an open and honest writing environment without fear of judgment or criticism.

13. Practice gratitude: Acknowledge things you’re grateful for in your daily life, big or small. This practice helps develop a more positive outlook and promotes overall well-being.

14. Personalize your diary: Customize your journal by adding photographs, quotes, or artwork that holds meaning—this can make the diary feel like an extension of you and encourage continued writing.

15. Be patient and consistent: Understand that developing a regular habit of diary writing takes time; be prepared to adjust and amend your approach as needed while remaining dedicated to the practice.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
