How to Wear French Cuffs: 6 Steps

Introduction:

French cuffs are a timeless and elegant addition to any wardrobe. They are a symbol of sophistication and offer a perfect way to elevate your attire for special occasions. Wearing French cuffs may seem daunting, but with a little guidance, you’ll effortlessly step up your fashion game. Here are six steps to help you wear French cuffs with confidence.

1. Choose your shirt:

First and foremost, select a dress shirt specifically designed for French cuffs. These shirts have longer sleeves and double-folded cuffs without buttons. You can find them in various colors and patterns that fit your personal style and the event you’re attending.

2. Fold the cuff:

To start off, open the cuff by unbuttoning it. Neatly fold it back on itself so that the cut edges of the fabric meet evenly. This will create an even layer all around your wrist, with the holes for the cufflinks lined up.

3. Select your cufflinks:

Cufflinks come in an array of designs and materials, such as metal, fabric, and even precious stones. Choose a pair that complements your outfit and adds a touch of personality. For formal events, choose more conservative and refined-looking cufflinks, while for semi-formals or casual events feel free to be more expressive in your choice.

4. Insert the cufflinks:

Thread the cufflink through the aligned holes in each layer of the cuff from outside to inside so that the decorative part of the cufflink faces outward when worn. Securely fasten it on the other side according to its type – whether it’s a bullet back closure, whale back closure, or fixed backing.

5. Adjust for comfort:

Now that you’ve fastened your cufflink, adjust your sleeve length to ensure it sits comfortably below your wrist without bunching up or getting caught on anything. The correct sleeve length will allow just a small portion of the cuff to show when you’re wearing a jacket, approximately ¼-½ inch.

6. Coordinate with your outfit:

French cuffs are a stand-out accessory, so ensure that they blend well with the rest of your ensemble. Pair them with a suit or sports jacket and tailored pants to create an overall polished look. For a more contemporary twist, you can even wear French cuffs with jeans and a casual blazer. Remember to match your choice of cufflinks with other accessories like a tie clip or watch to create a put-together appearance.

Conclusion:

Wearing French cuffs might seem intimidating at first, but by following these six simple steps, you’ll become a pro in no time. Embrace this stylish accessory to make a fashion statement without saying a word. Allow them to add sophistication and elegance to your outfit while showcasing your personality through your choice of cufflinks.
