A bow tie is a classic and stylish accessory that can elevate your formal attire and make you stand out in a crowd. While wearing a bow tie may seem intimidating at first, with the following 14 steps, you will be able to master the art and look dapper at any event.

.Choose the right bow tie:Opt for a high-quality fabric like silk or cotton, and pick a pattern that complements the rest of your outfit.

.Select the appropriate size:Ensure that the bow tie is not too large or small by measuring your neck size and consulting a sizing chart.

.Place the bow tie around your neck:With the right side up, slide one end under your shirt collar until both ends are hanging down evenly.

.Cross the ends:Position the left end over the right end of the bow tie, making an “X” shape.

.Thread and adjust:Pull the top end of the bow tie under the bottom end at the intersection, sliding it up towards your neck to tighten.

.Form a loop:Fold the bottom end of the bow tie horizontally, creating a 180-degree bend.

.Position it correctly:Ensure that this fold lies at your throat just below your Adam’s apple, with both sides forming a “V” shape.

.Bring down the top end:Drape it over the front of your first folded loop.

.Pinch and fold:Hold both sides of your first loop together while folding over with two fingers, creating an accordion-like fold.

.Identify the opening in back:Look for a small hole behind this new fold, as this is where you will pull through the top end.

.Finish pulling:Slide your finger through this hole while pinching with index finger and thumb on each side of the new fold to hold it in place.

.Thread and tighten:Carefully pull the top end through the hole while maintaining the shape of your bow tie, then adjust the length and tightness as needed.

.Adjust for balance:Ensure that both loops are symmetrical, and you have equal amounts of fabric on both sides.

.Practice makes perfect:Don’t be intimidated by this seemingly intricate process; practice these steps until they come naturally to you, and you’ll be a bow-tie expert in no time!

By following these 14 steps, you will not only know how to wear a bow tie properly, but you’ll also be able to showcase your elegance and sophistication at any formal event.
