How to Wash Faux Locs

Introduction:

Faux locs are a gorgeous and versatile protective hairstyle that is becoming increasingly popular. While these synthetic extensions require less maintenance than natural locs, they still need to be cleaned and kept in good condition. In this article, we will guide you through the process of washing your faux locs to ensure they remain looking fabulous and healthy.

Materials You’ll Need:

1. Mild sulfate-free shampoo

2. Water-based conditioner

3. Microfiber towel or t-shirt

4. Wide-tooth comb or detangling brush

5. Spray bottle (for diluting shampoo)

6. Hair clips (for sectioning hair)

Step 1: Prepare Your Faux Locs for Washing

Before you begin washing your faux locs, gently remove any build-up or lint from the extensions with your fingers. This will make the washing process more effective and prevent any buildup from remaining on your locs.

Step 2: Section Your Hair

Divide your faux locs into manageable sections, especially if you have a full head of extensions. This will make it easier for you to wash and prevent tangling during the process. Use hair clips to hold each section in place while you work on another.

Step 3: Dilute Your Shampoo

Mix one-part mild sulfate-free shampoo with three parts water into a spray bottle. This diluted solution will help prevent product buildup on your extensions while still effectively cleansing them.

Step 4: Shampoo Your Faux Locs

Spray the diluted shampoo mixture onto each section of your hair, focusing on one section at a time. Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp and work it through the length of your faux locs, making sure not to twist or manipulate them too much. After completing each section, rinse it thoroughly with water before moving on to the next.

Step 5: Condition Your Faux Locs

After you have shampooed all of the sections, apply a water-based conditioner to your faux locs. This will help keep your extensions moisturized and aid in detangling. Allow the conditioner to sit for 3-5 minutes, and then gently comb through each section with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.

Step 6: Rinse and Squeeze out Excess Water

Rinse out the conditioner thoroughly from your hair and squeeze out any excess water from your locs using a microfiber towel or t-shirt. Avoid using a regular towel, as this can cause frizz and breakage.

Step 7: Air Dry Your Faux Locs

Allow your faux locs to air dry or, if necessary, use a hooded dryer on a low heat setting. Avoid using direct heat from a blow dryer as this can damage your extensions over time.

Conclusion:

By following these simple steps, you’ll be well on your way to maintaining healthy, clean faux locs that will last for weeks. Remember always to be gentle when handling your extensions and choose sulfate-free products that won’t cause buildup or damage. With proper care and maintenance, you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful faux loc hairstyle without worry.
