Introduction:

McAfee Total Protection is a comprehensive security software suite designed to protect your computer against viruses, malware, and other security threats. However, for various reasons such as system conflicts, wanting to switch to another security software, or simply no longer needing the McAfee protection – you may want to uninstall it. This guide provides a complete step-by-step tutorial on how to uninstall McAfee Total Protection from your computer.

Step 1: Save your work and close all applications

Before uninstalling any software, it’s always a good idea to save your work and close all running applications. This ensures that the uninstallation process won’t interfere with any active tasks.

Step 2: Access the Control Panel

To access the Control Panel on Windows, click on the Start button or press the Windows key on your keyboard. In the search box, type “Control Panel” and select it from the list of results.

On macOS devices, open Finder and go to Applications > Utilities > System Preferences.

Step 3: Open Programs and Features

For Windows users: In the Control Panel window, click on “Uninstall a program” under Programs category. This will open the Programs and Features window.

For macOS users: Click on “Security & Privacy” in System Preferences. Then click on “FileVault” tab.

Step 4: Locate and select McAfee Total Protection

In the Programs and Features window (Windows) or FileVault tab (macOS), search for McAfee Total Protection in the list of installed programs. Click on it to highlight it.

Step 5: Uninstall McAfee Total Protection

For Windows users: Click on the “Uninstall” button located at the top of the window or right-click on McAfee Total Protection, then click “Uninstall/Change”. A User Account Control (UAC) prompt may appear – click “Yes” to proceed. An uninstallation window will appear asking for confirmation to uninstall the program, click on “Remove” to start the process.

For macOS users: After selecting McAfee Total Protection, click on the padlock icon at the bottom left corner of the window and enter your administrator password. Click on “Turn off FileVault” and input your administrator password again. Uncheck McAfee Total Protection’s checkmark and close the System Preferences window.

Step 6: Restart your computer

After the uninstallation process is complete, restart your computer for the changes to take effect. This also ensures that any leftover files or settings are removed.

Conclusion:

Uninstalling McAfee Total Protection is a relatively simple process on both Windows and macOS devices. Follow these steps to successfully remove this security suite from your computer. Once uninstalled, you can choose to install another antivirus software or simply use the built-in security features that come with your operating system.
