How to Take a Bath: 15 Steps
1. Prepare the bathroom: Remove unnecessary items, clear surfaces, and clean the bathtub using a mild cleaning cleaner.
2. Gather your supplies: Assemble bath essentials like a bath towel, washcloth, soap or body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. You may also want to bring candles, essential oils, a book or magazine, and music for relaxation.
3. Fill the tub: Close the drain plug and adjust the water temperature to your preference. Test it with your elbow or hand before immersing your body in the water.
4. Add bath products: Pour bubble bath, bath salts, or bath oils into the running water to create a luxurious bathing experience.
5. Set the mood: Dim or turn off main lights and use candles or dimmable lights for a soothing ambiance. Turn on some calming music or nature sounds for added relaxation.
6. Undress and store clothes: Remove clothing and jewelry and place them in a safe spot.
7. Slowly enter the tub: Lower yourself gently into the bathtub using grab bars if available.
8. Soak comfortably: Lie back in the tub to allow your body to soak in the warm water. Keep adding hot water as needed to maintain desired temperature.
9. Use a washcloth: Dampen the washcloth with warm water and pour soap or body wash onto it. Gently scrub your body, starting from your neck down to your feet.
10. Wash your hair: Wet your hair thoroughly with warm water and gently work in shampoo from scalp to ends of hair. Rinse with clean water thoroughly, then apply conditioner to hair ends before rinsing again.
11. Take care of facial skin: Use a gentle facial cleanser appropriate for your skin type and gently massage it on your face using clean hands or a soft cleansing brush before rinsing off.
12. Exfoliate your skin: Use a body scrub or exfoliating gloves to gently rub away dead skin from your body, paying special attention to elbows, knees, and heels.
13. Rinse off: Start draining the tub and allow the water to drain away as you rinse off soap and bath products with clean water.
14. Hop out: Hold the sides of the tub or grab bars as you slowly stand up, taking caution to avoid slipping. Step onto a non-slip mat or towel placed on the bathroom floor.
15. Dry yourself: Wrap yourself in a warm, soft towel and gently pat your body dry, leaving some moisture on your skin. Finish by applying a body lotion or oil to help retain hydration in your skin before getting dressed.
