HDR (High Dynamic Range) gaming is the new buzz in the gaming world. It adds a new level of realism to the gaming experience by enhancing the color range, contrast and brightness. This technology allows games to display a wider range of colors and more detail in brighter and darker areas of the screen, resulting in a more immersive and vibrant gaming experience. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up HDR gaming on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro, along with a 4K HDR TV:

  1. Check the compatibility of your TV and console with HDR

Firstly, ensure that both your TV and console are compatible with HDR gaming. Check if your TV supports HDR and the type of HDR it supports. There are mainly two types of HDR: HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The PS4 and PS4 Pro both support HDR10. Also, ensure that your console is updated to the latest software to enable HDR support.

  1. Connect your console to your TV

Connect your gaming console to your TV using an HDMI cable. Make sure to use an HDMI 2.0 cable or higher as it can carry the HDR signal. Connect your console to the HDMI port that supports HDR. It is usually labeled as HDMI 1 or labeled as HDCP 2.2.

  1. Enable HDR on your TV

In the TV settings, enable HDR by selecting the HDMI port that your console is connected to. Go to the TV settings to enable HDR. Depending on your TV model, the option to enable HDR may vary. Look for options such as “HDMI Deep Color” or “HDR Mode” in the TV settings.

  1. Enable HDR on your console

Once you have enabled HDR on your TV, go to the settings of your console, and enable HDR. Under the “Sound and Screen” settings, select the “Video Output Settings” option and enable “HDR”. Also, ensure that the “4K Resolution” is enabled too, even if your TV is not 4K.

  1. Adjust the HDR settings

After enabling HDR in both your TV and console, ensure that your HDR settings are accurate. In the TV settings, check for options that allow you to adjust the HDR settings, such as color gamut, contrast, and brightness. Adjust these settings according to your preferences and make sure that the TV is displaying the HDR content correctly.

  1. Test your HDR gaming

Once everything is set up, test your HDR gaming by playing games that support the feature. Some of the popular HDR games are Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Fortnite. Ensure that your game settings are set to HDR and enjoy your HDR gaming experience.

Conclusion

HDR gaming is a game-changer, and setting it up is not very complicated. Follow these simple steps and enjoy a more immersive and realistic gaming experience. Remember to ensure that both your console and TV are compatible and updated to the latest software. Happy gaming!
