Playing snaps can be an entertaining and engaging way to challenge the minds of your friends and family. This mysterious guessing game uses patterns of snaps, claps, and other hints to represent the syllables of a designated word, secretly chosen by one person. Here’s a 13-step guide on how to play snaps.

1. Gather your players: Snaps can be played with just two people or in larger groups.

2. Explain the rules: In Snaps, one player chooses a secret word and communicates it to the other players without speaking or writing it down. They convey the word by using snaps, claps, and a coded phrase.

3. Select a “snapper”: Choose one player to be the snapper, who selects the secret word and gives clues for the others to guess.

4. Choosing a secret word: The snapper should choose a specific word, preferably one that is well-known among the group but not easily guessable.

5. Begin with a phrase: Once the snapper has chosen a secret word, they announce “We are playing Snaps, and this is a snap”. This phrase indicates that the game has started.

6. Clap for vowels: The snapper then claps their hands once for each vowel in the secret word, using this pattern – A = 1 clap, E = 2 claps, I = 3 claps, O = 4 claps, U = 5 claps.

7. Snap for consonants: For each consonant in the word, snap your fingers once and count those snaps silently within your head.

8. Use coded phrases: After completing the pattern for vowels and consonants in the first syllable of the secret word, say any phrase beginning with that consonant as a clue for your fellow players.

9. Clap for syllables: If the secret word has more than one syllable, clap your hands once between each syllable.

10. Continue giving hints: Repeat the pattern of snaps and claps for each syllable of the secret word, followed by coded phrases until you complete the word.

11. Guessing: The other players can make guesses by stating their guesses out loud during any point in the game.

12. Winning: Whoever guesses the secret word first wins the round and becomes the snapper in the next round.

13. Keep playing: Continue playing by repeating steps 1 through 12 for as many rounds as you desire. You can establish a points system if you want a competitive aspect to your game, or just play for fun.

Snaps is a great mental exercise that sharpens observation and deductive reasoning skills while also inspiring laughter and fostering camaraderie among friends and family members. Grab a group of people, choose your words wisely, and get ready to enjoy this intriguing game!
