How to Pick Up Dog Poop: 15 Steps

Introduction:

Picking up dog poop is a chore that every dog owner must eventually face. But if done right, with proper technique and knowledge, it can be quick and easy. The following 15-step guide will help alleviate any concerns or problems you may have in picking up your dog’s waste.

Step 1: Be prepared

Always have poop bags or plastic bags handy when walking your dog. Keep them in your pocket, leash bag, or attached to the leash itself.

Step 2: Select the right bag

Choose a bag that is easy to open and large enough to hold the poop without breaking or causing any mess.

Step 3: Approach the waste

Once your dog has done its business, approach the waste carefully and avoid stepping on it.

Step 4: Open the bag

Open up the bag by holding onto the top edges, making sure it’s wide enough to cover your hand.

Step 5: Cover your hand with the bag

Hold your hand flat and place it inside the open bag. Your hand should act as a barrier between you and the poop.

Step 6: Grab the poop with your protected hand

Using your bag-covered hand, gently grab on to the poop as if you were picking up a object from the ground.

Step 7: Slowly lift up

Once you’ve gotten a firm grasp on the poo, slowly lift it upwards without squeezing too hard to prevent breakage.

Step 8: Close the bag around the waste

With your other hand, pull up on the edges of the bag to close it around the waste. Make sure there are no gaps where feces might leak out.

Step 9: Securely seal the bag

Tighten and secure a knot at the top of the bag or use a twist tie to ensure no waste escapes.

Step 10: Dispose of the waste in a designated bin

Make sure to discard the bag in designated dog waste bins. If those aren’t available, use a regular trash bin.

Step 11: Sanitize your hands

Carry hand sanitizer with you and apply it to your hands after disposing of the waste – even if you didn’t touch anything.

Step 12: Regularly clean your backyard

If your dog defecates in your backyard, practice consistent waste management by picking up the poop daily or every couple of days.

Step 13: Consider alternative methods

If you find using bags difficult, explore alternative tools like poop scoopers or bag dispensers with built-in scoops.

Step 14: Train your dog

Train your dog to go potty on specific surfaces, making it easier for you to anticipate where they will leave waste and simplify the cleaning process.

Step 15: Stay responsible and respectful

Always clean up after your dog, as it promotes good neighborhood relations and keeps public spaces clean and inviting for both pets and their owners.

Conclusion:

By following these 15 steps, picking up dog poop will become second nature for dog owners. Being responsible with pet waste disposal helps maintain a clean environment and shows consideration for others in shared spaces.
