Witr prayer is an important part of the Islamic faith, performed by Muslims around the world after Isha, the last daily prayer. Witr is an odd numbered prayer, typically consisting of three rakats (units), designed to conclude one’s daily prayers. Follow these ten steps to perform Witr prayer correctly.

1. Perform wudu (ablution): Ensure that you are in a state of purity before starting the Witr prayer by performing wudu, the act of washing specified body parts.

2. Set your intention (niyyah): Stand facing the Qibla and make a clear mental intention to perform the Witr prayer.

3. Start with Takbeer: Raise your hands to your ears and say “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) to begin the prayer.

4. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha: Recite the opening chapter of the Quran, Al-Fatiha, in a low voice while standing in the Qiyam position (the standing posture during prayer).

5. Recite another Surah: After reciting Al-Fatiha, choose another Surah or a passage from the Quran and recite it.

6. Perform Ruku (bowing): Raise your hands to your ears again and say “Allahu Akbar”, then bow down with your hands on your knees. While bowing, recite “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” (Glory be to my Lord Almighty) three times.

7. Rise from Ruku: Stand up straight again while saying “Sami Allahu liman Hamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him), followed by “Rabbana lakal hamd” (Our Lord, praise be to You).

8. Perform Sujud (prostration): Say “Allahu Akbar” as you go down into prostration. Touch the ground with your forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes while reciting “Subhana Rabbiyal A’laa” (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High) three times.

9. Sit briefly after the first two rakats: After the second prostration of the second rakat, sit for a brief pause and recite the Tashahhud. Then say “Allahu Akbar” as you rise for the third rakat.

10. Complete the final rakat: Perform the third rakat like previous ones but include the additional dua Qunoot before going into Ruku. After completing this dua, perform Ruku and then complete the rest of your prayer as usual.
