Introduction:

Pan frying salmon is a simple and delicious way to prepare this flavorful fish. With crispy skin and tender, moist flesh, you’ll have a satisfying meal in just a few easy steps. Follow these eight tips to learn how to master pan frying salmon.

1. Choose your salmon:

Pick a fresh, high-quality salmon fillet or steak with bright color and firm texture. Go for wild-caught or sustainably sourced options for the best taste and health benefits.

2. Prepare your ingredients:

Gather your ingredients, including the salmon, olive oil or melted butter, salt, pepper, and any preferred seasonings or marinades. You can also add minced garlic, lemon juice, or fresh herbs for added flavor.

3. Dry the salmon:

Before cooking, pat the salmon completely dry with paper towels. Removing moisture from the surface ensures even browning and crispiness when pan frying.

4. Season both sides:

Season both sides of the salmon evenly with salt, pepper, and any desired spices or rubs. Press seasonings gently into the fish to help them stick during cooking.

5. Preheat the pan:

Set a non-stick skillet or well-seasoned cast iron pan to medium-high heat. Wait until it’s hot enough that water droplets sizzle upon contact before adding oil or butter.

6. Add oil or butter:

Pour your choice of olive oil or melted butter into the preheated pan so that it covers the entire bottom surface. Allow it to heat up until it shimmers but not smoking.

7. Cook the salmon:

Place the salmon fillet skin-side down into the hot oil or butter. Cook the fillet for 3-5 minutes on one side until a golden brown crust forms before flipping onto the other side and cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes until done to your preference (ie., medium-rare, medium, or well-done). Adjust cook time based on the thickness of your fillet.

8. Rest and serve:

Transfer the cooked salmon to a plate and let it rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to settle. Pair with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!

In Conclusion:

By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to create perfectly pan-fried salmon every time. With practice, you’ll develop the confidence to experiment with additional flavors and techniques, turning this tasty dish into a staple in your home cooking repertoire.
