Whether you want to revamp your old fiberglass chairs or give a fresh new look to your outdoor seating, painting them is an excellent way to upgrade their appearance. Follow these 10 easy steps to ensure your fiberglass chairs look as good as new.

1. Gather necessary materials: Before starting, gather all the required materials such as paint, sandpaper (220-grit), primer, painter’s tape, disposable gloves, safety glasses, and a dust mask.

2. Clean the chairs: Use soap and water to clean your fiberglass chairs thoroughly. This removes any dirt, debris, and grease, ensuring better paint adhesion. Allow the chair to dry completely before proceeding.

3. Sand the surface: Once the chairs are dry, sand them using 220-grit sandpaper. This will create a rough surface for better paint adhesion while also removing any old paint or scratches.

4. Wipe down the chairs: After sanding, use a microfiber cloth to remove dust from the chairs’ surface.

5. Apply painter’s tape: If there are any areas on the chair that you do not want to be painted, cover them with painter’s tape.

6. Apply primer: Apply a layer of primer designed specifically for fiberglass surfaces onto your chairs using a brush or roller. The primer ensures an even paint application and provides better adhesion for the topcoat of paint. Allow the primer to dry fully according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Choose the right paint: When painting fiberglass chairs, it is crucial to select paint specifically designed for fiberglass surfaces. Epoxy-based paints or those labeled for outdoor use work best in this case.

8. Paint the chairs: Once the primer has dried completely, apply multiple thin coats of paint onto your chairs using a brush or roller. Make sure each coat dries thoroughly before applying additional coats for best results.

9. Apply a clear sealer: To protect your freshly painted chairs, apply a clear sealer specifically designed for outdoor use. The sealer provides an added layer of protection from the elements and increases the life of your paint job.

10. Allow the chairs to dry: Give your chairs sufficient time to dry before using them. Drying time may vary depending on the paint and sealer used, so consult the manufacturer’s instructions for accurate drying times.

With these 10 easy steps, you can breathe new life into your fiberglass chairs and enjoy their refreshed appearance for years to come.
