How to Move Big Pots: 4 Steps

Moving big pots, both indoors and outdoors, can be a challenging task. Whether it’s a large potted plant or a heavy cooking pot, it’s important to ensure safety and prevent injuries while moving these objects. Here are four simple steps to help you move big pots safely and efficiently.

1. Assess the situation:

Before attempting to move any large pot, analyze the object’s size, weight, and shape as well as the distance you must move it. Ensure that you have a clear path without obstacles to navigate through while carrying the pot. Additionally, consider whether you would need assistance or any specialized equipment for the task.

2. Gather necessary equipment:

Having the right equipment can make moving big pots easier and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries. Some useful tools for this job include:

– Lifting straps: These can help distribute weight evenly and minimize strain on your back and arms.

– Potlifter: A specialized device designed for carrying heavy pots to ease the burden on your body.

– Moving dolly or cart: These can offer a stable surface to transport large pots without putting excessive stress on your body.

3. Lift with proper form:

When lifting any heavy object like a big pot, good form is crucial in order to prevent strain or injury. To properly lift a heavy pot:

– Stand close to the pot with your feet shoulder-width apart.

– Bend at your knees, not your waist while keeping your back straight.

– Grip the pot firmly using both hands or lifting straps if available.

– Tighten your core muscles and lift with your legs–not with your back–as you stand up.

4. Move slowly and carefully:

Once you have successfully lifted the pot, take slow, calculated steps towards your destination. Stay mindful of any potential obstacles along the way and ensure that you have proper footing before proceeding. If you are using a dolly or cart, ensure that the pot is securely positioned and take extra care when navigating turns or uneven surfaces.

By following these four essential steps, you can successfully and safely move big pots of any kind. Remember to always assess the situation, gather necessary equipment, use proper lifting form, and move cautiously to prevent injury to yourself and your surroundings.
