How to Measure Your Torso: 9 Steps

If you’re looking to buy backpacks, exercise gear, or clothes that fit perfectly, knowing how to measure your torso is essential. Getting the right measurements ensures a comfortable and secure fit. Here are 9 easy steps to help you measure your torso accurately.

1. Gather Materials: You will need a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and a friend or family member to help you out.

2. Remove Clothes: To get an accurate measurement, remove any bulky clothing items in the upper body area. Wearing just a light shirt or tank top would work best for this process.

3. Find Your Iliac Crest: The iliac crest is the top of your hip bone, which can be felt by wrapping your hands around the highest point on your hips. This is where the waistband of your pants usually sits.

4. Locate the C7 Vertebra: It’s essential to identify the starting point for measuring your torso length correctly. The C7 vertebra is the protruding bone on the back of your neck when you tilt your head forward.

5. Stand Straight: To get an accurate measurement, stand straight with your feet shoulder-width apart while maintaining a natural posture.

6. Have Your Friend Help You: Ask your friend to hold one end of the measuring tape at the C7 vertebra and stretch it down along the spine.

7. Run Measuring Tape Along Spine: Ensure that you are not leaning forward or backward as your friend runs the measuring tape along the contour of your spine down to the iliac crest.

8. Keep the Tape Straight: Instruct your friend to keep the measuring tape straight while taking measurements along with maintaining it level at all times.

9. Note Down Measurement: Once you reach the iliac crest, have your friend note down the measurement in inches or centimeters without rounding up or down, as every bit of accuracy is essential.

Now you have your torso measurement, which will come in handy when looking for perfectly fitted clothes, backpacks, or exercise gear. Remember that different brands and styles might fit differently, so it’s always good to consult sizing charts and read online reviews on fitting before making a purchase.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
